I bet you didn’t know that March 22nd’-March 28th was World Doula Week. Yep, it is!

So, what is World Doula Week?

The purpose of World Doula Week is to empower doulas all over the world to improve the physiological, social, emotional, and psychological health of women, newborns and families in birth and in the postpartum period.

Wait…Did you know that LLWL offered doula services?

Do you know what a Doula is?  The word Doula in Greek means, a woman servant.

I find that when telling others that I offer doula services the response includes a “look” followed with the question “what the heck is a doula?”. Some believe a doula is a “crunchy, hippie, woo woo” person that will only support you during a natural birth and home births.  Don’t get me wrong, those doulas ARE out there. However, here at LLWL, we pride ourselves on being your “modern day” doula.  As a Doula, I offer UNBIASED social, emotional and physical support to parents during pregnancy, birth and their postpartum period.  This means that if you want an unmedicated birth, I will support you. If you want a medicated birth, I will support you.  If you want to breast feed, bottle feed or both, I will support you.  We are not your voice nor will we make decisions FOR you. We will, however, be there to support and empower you to use YOUR voice and make the best decisions for you and your baby.  Doulas are there during prenatal visits. We are there to help with hip squeezes, counter pressure and, dancing around the labor room and, helping during your postpartum period.  Doula’s won’t just hold your baby. We will support in ways others may not. Many will help with meal prepping, laundry, baby feedings, etc.  Doulas support YOU.

This is LLWL and we offer birth and postpartum doula services.

Do you have a better idea of how a doula can support you?
